A 65-M, a multi-hull version
of the RG-65
Capital Model Boat Association is a group of like-minded people who enjoy all forms of model boating including R/C sail and motorized boats as well as static models. We are located in Raleigh, NC but we serve a much wider area. We welcome Radio Controlled (R/C) as well as scale boats. We sail at Lake Wheeler Park every Sunday from 2:00 P.M. until ... Our aims are to have FUN and to help other sailors.
Our fleets include an open class for sail in which any boat may race. We also have an RG-65 fleet, our official racing sailboat class.
The RG-65 is an AMYA recognized developmental class sailboat. There are few rules which you can see here: RG-65 Rules. The boats must be 65cm ± .5 cm (about 26 1/2 inches), Maximum rig height is 110 cm and a maximum sail area of 2250 sq cm is allowed. .Hull design is up to the owner/builder. Creative people are encouraged to come up with their own designs. Finished hulls are available for those who don't care to build. The main information source for the RG-65 is this Yahoo group: RG-65 Sailboats US
In the future we expect to add tugboat pulling contests as well as tug rescue operations. You don't have to be an R/C sailor; we enjoy static models as well.. You don't have any models? Bring a lawnchair and just enjoy the day with us.
We are AMYA (American Model Yacht Association) club #314. One of their clubs which is similar to our aims can be found here: Montgomery Model Boat Club. We encourage our members to become AMYA members. Their membership fee is $25 per year and it includes the soft-cover magazine "Model Yachting."
We are a new club, just starting out, so much of our information, sailing dates and venues is subject to change as we learn..
For our sailing schedule and specific locations please check "notices" in our forum.
If you have any suggestions or would like to help organize the website and activities please contact Admin at CapitalMBA dot com.
